Inquiring Minds Want to Know
A couple weeks ago an inquiring mind asked two questions...Does Peru have cell phones and or flush toilets?
Since you asked....
One of the dangers in Peru is that you will be bumped into by someone walking while texting. Yes, everyone seems to have cell phones. I will add a photo of traditional Peruvian dancers on their cell phones between dances. Most are Samsung and LG but many are smart phones. Only a few Apples.
Regarding flush toilets, yes even on that remote island in the middle of Lake Tikicaca there are flush toilets although you may have to dip water from a large pail and add it to the toilet bowl yourself to doing the flushing. Not really that bad. Kinda reminds me of cabin on Boot Lake on occasion.
What they dont handle is toilet paper in the toilet bowl so every toilet has a small wastebasket nearby into which you put your soiled toilet paper. Something about inadequate plumbing system. Actually it is not that bad. They even sell deodorizing toilet paper! And its a great way to keep track of your digestive health!
However, there are some other things Peru does not have....
1) American built cars. They are all Honda and Toyota (Japan), Kia and Hyndi(Korea) and Chery and Great Wall(China).
2) American build appliances. No GE, Westinghouse or Amanda appliances. Plenty of Samsung, LG and Mabe (where ever that comes from)
3) American built motorcycles Lots of Honda(Japan) and Waxson(China) including mototaxis.
However Peru does have....
1) Star Wars hype and Disney Frozen dolls and etc.
2) Computers with Microsoft Windows software. (Legal or not...I don{t know)
3) Plenty of internet cafes where an hour on line will cost you about a quarter US.
4) Plenty of police patroling the streets on foot or motorcycle.
Its a trade off folks. Easy to see that American manufacturing is in a bad spot. Yes, Denyses backpack was stolen but then last Christmas while traveling our house in Colorado was burglarized. Is either location better or worse?
