More on Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon

While traveling thru Eastern Kansas I have missed a few days so will try to catch this story up.

Traveling East from Gridley, KS I learned that the new tires couldn't be shipped in time to get them on Saturday...so that left me free to go North. After quite a few miles I ran into Corley (?) Kansas and decided that plan B would be to ride to Kansas City, take a bus to St. Louis and then resume riding. That puts me back on schedule for after ride activities.

So a little accounting work at a couple different libraries and I ran into a bike rail/trail of about 60 miles headed to Kansas City. After 30 miles of it I spent the night in Garett, KS (Pool still open, got shower) for Thunderstorm on Night # 2. Tires still working so decided to try to get 30 miles on trail on old tire....Saturday I made it 28 miles, then walked bike last two to Ottawa, KS and a Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart had the tire and tube I needed.....rolling again.

Those of you who know me well know I defend Wal-Mart voraciously, and here is a good example why. They had what I needed in a small town that did not otherwise have it!

Anyway, Hot, Humid day I (Saturday now, pay attention) rode another 30 miles to Louisberg, KS where I was told there was a motel. No Motel. So local police (at my request) let me camp at a city park. Night #3 of Thunderstorms.

Sunday Morning I rode fast and hard about 40 miles to make the bus (Megabus) with about 15 minutes to spare. Big difference riding thru country to riding in downtown Kansas City. Made the bus, at 4:30 PM reassembled bike in downtown St. Louis and proceeded another 30 miles to Alton , IL where I finally found a motel. No Thunderstorms.

Now Monday Morning, I have already had a telephone conference and plan to make it an easy day to camp at Pere Marquette State Park, (water park on way) then two days to end the bike ride in Macomb. (Winds permitting)

I've probably missed some costs but here we go:

McDonald's Sweet Tea and Smoothies $5.00
McDonald's Food $10.00
Groceries $20.00
Repair Bike Tire/Tube $26.00
New Radio that actually works $16.00
Motel in Alton, IL $52.00
Bus Ride from KC to St. Louis $43.00
New Cell Phone as water damage during
Thunderstorm Night #2, damaged old one. $53.00

I do admit that I started with considerable groceries from the house, so this
really is a partial list. I highly recommend Summer Sausage. It's indestructible and full of chemicals so keeps forever.
