Monarch Crest Bike Trail
Saturday, August 27th I rode a big portion of the Monarch Crest Bike Trail....reported to be one of the best mountain bike Single Track trails in the USA. Denyse dropped me off at the top of Monarch Pass, then we ride up from there.
Snow doesn't clear until about 4th of July so this is a late Summer/Fall activity. I saw approx 50 riders (was given hint to do it during week....lots less traffic.)
The views are spectacular (see photo) and the trail varies from smooth to very rocky with a short stretch through a scree field.
Thunderstorms are common in the mountains in late August but I missed any rain...I did see some small hail stones on the ground as I rode through a recent rain area.
Following the ride a great downhill to Poncha Springs then into Alamosa. Click on a photo to enlarge.
